Tudors Title Sequence

At the beginning of the title sequence it shows a shot of a painting of Henry VIII and a photo of one of his wives, they ear close up shots at the beginning there is a voice over and it says ‘you think you know the story but you only know the end, to get to the heart of it you have to go back to the beginning’. This suggests that the T.V drama goes back to the start when Henry was first king, when he was young and that is why they have a short of a young man on a thrown at the beginning and then a close up shot of a crown at the beginning and a mid shot of the crown on the thrown, then an extreme close up of the crown at the end.

During the title sequence there was single shots of the characters doing thing and then there would be a shot of them looking to the side and the gradually facing the camera they there name would appear.

At the start there was a shot of a castle, People fighting and boys and girls together the shots were very fast in changing.

The music to the title sequence was quite fast and the shots changed in time to the music, a lot of the shots would be a mid shot and then maybe to a big close up and different angles of things. There are shots of love, fighting, ruling and candles to show it was set a long time ago.

When there is a voice over at the beginning that suggests to me that people don’t know Henry for who he was so this T.V drama will tell you what he is really like and what went on in those times.

It draws the audience in because you want to find our more about what is going on because they only show you little glimpses so you want to find out the whole story.

Editing notes about the drama series Dexter.

Showing him slapping a mosquito at the begining indicates murder.
Lots of jump cuts.

The title of Dexter, writing is blood red the background is very pale like it has been carved on a dead body, this is show after he has opened his eyes to show hes awoken and ready for the sequence of his day.

Jump cut from one blood spot to another two, creates more drama and tension.

Lots of jump cuts adds mystery and addiction making you asking questions.

Shows him locking the door maybe to show hes's locking away secrets, it shows him pulling the key out relating to him pulling aknife out of somebody.

The sequence jumps from one thing hes doing to another mainly emphasing things that relate to murder or are simlar that make you think of murder.

Also using the jump cuts it makes the routine seem more odd and unatural which relates to the fact that he himself is a bit weird and unnatural.

Textual analysis

Textual analysis is the process of breaking down a text into its various elements and studying them to analyse how meaning is created. When analysing moving image media (such as film or television) we must examine the following areas:

* camerawork (shots, angles, movements)
* editing (how shots have been put together)
* sound (both digetic and non digetic)
* special effects (if there are any)
* mise-en-scene (costume, make-up, facial expression, props, setting, performance)
